Sherdley Manor | Ethos
Sherdley Manor Home aims to provide its service users with a high quality and reliable service which meets the needs of each individual resident we care for. To help achieve this, the home has used the fundamental core values of care to develop and deliver the service on a person-centred basis:
- Independence and autonomy of personal choices and decision making which involves taking risks associated with everyday life.
- The safeguarding from intrusion and the preservation of confidentiality and forms of abuse
- Emotional and psychological support which understands the difficulties faced by individuals with mental health problems which present complex needs and at times behaviours
- Compassion, empathy and human kindness is always shown to individuals
- To understand and “know the person” we are caring for and supporting on a daily basis
- Respect for the individuality and dignity of each in person and his or her racial and ethnic identity.
- To enable and encourage fulfilment of aspirations and abilities in all aspects of daily life
- Gaining knowledge about opportunities, conditions and prospects and ways of improving the individual’s life.
- Choosing from a range of options, the best way to maintain independence and carry out activities and daily life skills.
- To participate and integrate in society and to be involved in the development of care plans, policies and any decisions affecting the individual’s life.
- Ensuring that all service users have an equality to access all services regardless of age, race or ethnic origin, creed, colour, religion, political affiliation, disability or impairment, marital status, sexual gender or sexual orientation.
We at Sherdley Manor realise that everyone is different and individual. The home supports this in a person-centred way and responds positively to changing needs to ensure that all needs are met.
We take time to get to know people and learn as much about them as possible so that we are able to support them as they would want us to.
We listen, we pay attention and we actively support.
We do not view challenges as problems…we view them as opportunities. We tackle any issues or events that may arise with empathy and compassion always placing the person and their needs first.
